We want your hairhoney extensions to last as long as possible, and maintain their glossy and luxurious appearance. Follow this maintenance guide to take the best care of your wefts and wigs.
HOW DO I WASH MY HAIR?
Before installation, wash your hair and dry it completely before applying the extensions. Once installed, treat your Hairhoney hair as if it is your own.
Wash your hair at least once a week. Always keep your hair and scalp clean. Wash and condition your hair with high-quality moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Choose products that contain no alcohol and have a pH of 4-6. This will ensure your hair does not dry out. Gently brush and finger detangle you hair dry, before applying shampoo. Comb starting from the bottom section and moving up.
When washing your hair, use gently running water and smooth the shampoo and conditioner over your hair in one direction from top to bottom. Do not rub vigorously or pile your hair on top of your head as this creates tangles. Do not sink wash. Deep condition monthly or as needed with good quality products.
Rinse thoroughly. Squeeze out excess water and pat hair dry with a towel. Do not rub or twist the hair.
For best results, allow your hair to air dry after washing. For curly hair, scrunch hair while damp to reform curls.
For wigs, always remove your adhesive gently prior to washing. Wash in a downward motion in lukewarm water. Never apply conditioner directly to the knots as this can cause shedding. Pat dry and leave to air dry.
Note: If you experience any tangling – before washing your hair, spray a mixture of conditioner and water onto the hair and brush from the bottom up. Gradually wet the hair down and brush it gently before you completely wash the hair.
WHAT SHOULD MY BEDTIME ROUTINE BE?
Before going to bed, depending on your style, hair should be wrapped, braided, twisted, rolled or pin curled according to the texture to prevent tangling.
Never sleep on loose, wet hair.
Sleep with a slumber cap, doek or on Hairhoney's satin-silk pillowcase to reduce hair tangles in the night.
CAN I USE STYLING PRODUCTS OR OILS ON MY HAIR?
Yes, you can use any styling products sparingly to maintain the hair's natural body and movement. Apply products while the hair is damp so they are not overly concentrated.
Styling products can create build up on the hair and it is recommended that a deep cleansing shampoo be used once a month to remove build-up. Avoid styling products that contain alcohol as this dries out the hair.
A good quality, leave-in conditioner or Argan oil adds extra moisture to your hair. Apply when needed. With curly hair, it’s best to avoid heavy oils and excessive product as it can weigh the hair down.
A sulphate-free shampoo helps to add body to straight styles.
CAN I HEAT STYLE MY HAIR?
Yes, Hairhoney extensions can be styled with hot styling tools. Remember that heat styling damages the hair and can lead to more shedding, dryness and breakage. Hair that is frequently heat styled may dry out and require more frequent trims. If you must use heat, be sure you use a heat protecting spray. Do not blow dry or sit under a hot dryer.
Curly hair that is regularly straightened my become straighter over time.
CAN I DYE/BLEACH MY HAIR?
Yes, however we always recommended consulting a professional hair stylist before colouring your hair, especially when colouring your hair lighter. Prior to any chemical alterations, a strand test should be performed. Be aware that performing these services can change the texture and/or pattern of the hair.
CAN I SWIM WITH MY HAIR?
It is not recommended that you swim with extension hair, as chlorine and salt water is damaging to the hair.
However if you do, before swimming make sure to comb or brush through hair and apply a leave-in conditioner to act as a protective layer.
Braiding hair may help to prevent tangling during swimming.
Afterwards, thoroughly shampoo and condition hair and allow to air dry.
